After I publish a chapter, I find it takes me about a week for me to start recharging. I wish that time was shorter, but I’m happy that I’m recharging! (Therapy really is seeming to work on my mindset change.)
Currently going through the process of my original chapter 3 now being a chapter 4, splitting my original chapter 4 into chapter 3 and chapter 5, and then going back to chapter 6.
Think it’ll play way better and also be a good break and time split from where things ends, let things sit outside of Warren a bit more. Looking forward to it.
It might take some time, and Chapter 3 will go offline in the interim, but hopefully I get Chapters 3 – 6 out soon.
I know exactly where my Part 1 ends and part of the fun of this book (to me) is I’m not sure when it gets there. I’d be surprised if it doesn’t end by Chapter 8. Still deciding that.
My goal for summer is to finish my part 1 and then clean it up in a bow. It has a clear distinction in his life and sets everything up for later. It also will be long enough (maybe 100 pages or so) that it could technically be considered a novella, which is cool.
I’ll then go through and put a full pass on the chapter, considering all reviews and distinctions, to make it solid enough to ice into a Scrivener work document, put as an Epub, and then ignore it until I finish the entire novel. That’s my current plan for this book.
I expect this novel to be somewhere between 3 and 5 parts. I know exactly where it ends and where most ‘parts’ begin and end. Depends on how it goes.
I think about what Brandon Sanderson said about the guy who wrote Wheel of Time. I don’t like Brandon Sanderson nearly as much as I did as a kid, but I can’t deny that The Way of Kings is literally the reason I’m a fantasy author.
Anyway, he said that the author of Wheel of Time had all of his notes for the beginning of the book and the end of the book, didn’t change that direction at all, but ended up needing 12 books instead of 3.
I have a feeling I’ll be like that. Seems like a good place to be.
Couple other things:
- A friend of mine and I joked that I need to get this out before Winds of Winter, in part because I’m an English teacher and GRRM is a full-time author so I can stick it to him. Sounds hilarious and now I have a new goal.
- I’m working on the second major character in the book’s perspective right now and it’s fantastic getting into the headspace. I think it’s really coming alive now.
- I still cannot wait to get into the third major character I think about him more than anyone else.
- I want to go through and improve Chapter 2 in a variety of ways. Something about the statue doesn’t play right. I need more time with it, away from it and more eyes on it but I’m getting a better picture on it.
- I’m getting better at dealing with worse products than I want.
- People reading and reviewing these are INSANELY helpful for my motivation! Perhaps it really is quantum theory.
- I think I only write these for me and I’m perfectly okay with that.
Hope to come out with the real Chapters 3, 4 and 5 soon.
